RUMFORD – The American Cancer Society has selected Diane Mitchell to serve as chairwoman for this year’s Relay for Life of Rumford being held at Hosmer Field starting at 6 p.m. May 30 and ending at noon on May 31.

Relay For Life brings together teams from local businesses, schools, churches and families for camaraderie, food, fun, music, entertainment and a night under the stars all while team members take turns walking or running on a track.

One local business, Mead-Westvaco Corp., recently donated $5,000 to the Relay For Life of Rumford. Sonya Janke, Mead-Westavaco’s representative, commented, “Our team this year, with Joe McKellick and Brianna Janke as co-captains, is twice the size as last year’s. Since team members all are active throughout the year with various fund-raisers, we’re hoping to be able to match this $5,000 donation with our fund-raising efforts. Being a part of this team has been a lot of fun for all of us.”

In addition to Mead-Westvaco, other local sponsors include: Town of Rumford, Franklin Savings Bank, Carrabassett Spring Water, WBLM/WHOM/WCYY, Rumford Eagles Club, WB-5/UPN-35, and the Sun Journal.
