BIDDEFORD – Cathy McKinney smacked a grand slam home run in the second inning to propel Edward Little to a 6-5 victory over Biddeford in SMAA softball action.

Crystal Witherspoon and Lauren Hussar chipped in with doubles for the Red Eddies (2-1).

Leah Laferriere led the offensive effort for Biddeford (1-2) with a pair of RBI triples. Jillian Belanger threw seven innings and allowed eight hits while posting the loss.

Portland 8, Lewiston 7

PORTLAND – Amy Brown’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning drove in Jen Caron with the winning run to lift Portland to a 8-7 victory over Lewiston in SMAA softball action.

Sara Brown went the distance for Portland (2-1) and picked up the win. Meagan Rutherford led the hit parade with an RBI double.

Stephanie Lagasse and Katie Morin led the offensive effort for the Blue Devils (2-1) with two RBIs each.

Oak Hill 5, Lincoln 3

NEWCASTLE – Julie Lizotte scattered six hits and ripped an RBI triple to lead Oak Hill to a 5-3 victory over Lincoln Academy.

Oak Hill led 3-2 after three then put it away with runs in the next two.

Jill Lizotte also contributed an RBI double for the Raiders (3-1). Justine Flagg pitched five innings for Lincoln and was credited with the loss.

Leavitt 23, Gardiner 0

GARDINER – Sam St. Hilaire fired her fifth consecutive shutout to lead Leavitt to a 23-0 thrashing of Gardiner in a KVAC game that was called after five innings.

St. Hilaire allowed two hits and retired 11 of the 15 outs with strikeouts.

Kristin Healy led the offense with a pair of hits, including a grand slam home run in the fifth inning. Gretchen Conn slugged a three-run blast in the fourth for Leavitt (5-0).

Amy Myrand had three of the Hornets’ 16 hits. Alanna Leonard, Laura Pratt and St. Hilaire also had two hits.

The Hornets defense played errorless ball, while Gardiner (1-3) committed four miscues. Mallory Nutting took the loss for the Tigers.

Oxford Hills 8, Mt. Blue 4

SOUTH PARIS – Danielle Robertson ripped an RBI triple in the fourth inning to spark Oxford Hills to an 8-4 triumph over Mt. Blue in KVAC softball action.

Robertson keyed a four-run fourth that gave the Vikings (3-2) an insurmountable lead. Randi Arsenault went the distance and posted the mound win. Anna and Dawn Kelley each had doubles to lead the Cougars.

Lacrosse
Gould 18, Hebron 7

BETHEL – Kate Fitzgerald and Betsey Carabooladd combined for nine goals to lead Gould to a 18-7 rout over Hebron in prep school lacrosse action.

Sara Velte, Trisha Bean and Shala Bien chipped in for Gould (3-2) with three goals apiece.

Fiona Meliegue and Shannon Kearney led Hebron with two goals each. Beth Bilodeau, Louise Roy and Arlee Woodworth all talled single goals.

Erin Curry made nine saves for Gould.
