GORHAM – Pat Liddy and Ryan Adams combined to limit Brandeis to seven hits and one run as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated Brandeis 3-1 in college baseball.

Andy Lang ignited a two-run sixth for USM that snapped a 1-1 tie with a double into the gap. Tyler Delorme followed with an RBI double to left and later scored on a single by shortstop Brian Marshall.

Former Edward Little standout Bryan Lambert was the tough-luck loser, striking out eight batters over the course of seven innings. Scott Kuhen scored the lone run for Brandeis (15-11-1) with a one-out, bases-loaded fielder’s choice.

St. Joseph’s sweeps Bates

STANDISH – Greg Kimball fired a shutout and fanned a career-high 12 strikeouts to lead Saint Joseph’s to a 3-0 victory over Bates in the opener of a doubleheader. The Monks followed that up with a 7-1 decision.

St. Joe’s (14-14) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener when Jesse LaCasse led off with his eighth homer of the season. The lead grew to 3-0 in the fifth.

Bates starter Ben Gwozdzy took the loss despite a solid effort.

Jerrett Shaffer scattered five hits in the nightcap for the Monks. Jack Hughes led the offense with two hits and two RBIs.

The hosts scored three runs in the first on a bases-loaded walk, a sacrifice fly and a passed ball.

The lone run for Bates (6-11) was unearned on Nate Maxwell’s RBI double.

Men’s lacrosse
Colby 13, Bowdoin 11

WATERVILLE – Barron Butler netted three goals and three assists to lead Colby to a 13-11 victory over Bowdoin in men’s lacrosse action.

The Polar Bears (6-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game, but the Mules (4-7) responded with three goal in 38 seconds to even the game with four minutes left in the half.

Joshua Cleaver scored all four goals in the second half to propel the Mules to victory.

Softball

Wentworth 9, Univ. of New England 0

BIDDEFORD, – Jena Beauregard pitched six complete innings of shutout softball as Wentworth routed the University of New England, 9-0, in college action Wednesday.

Wentworth (15-10) went on a tear in the first inning by sending seven runners across the plate. Aimee Deltgen, Noella Quinn and Ashley Craig each had a pair of hits, while every other player except the pitcher also had a hit. However, Beauregard did cross the plate for a run in the effort.

Amber Taylor and Laureen Lafond went 2-for-3 for the University of New England in the loss.
