MONMOUTH – Josh Stroup allowed only hits and struck out 10 to lead Monmouth past Jay 4-1 in a battle of MVC early-season baseball favorites Friday.
Stroup also doubled as the Mustangs (1-1) avenged a Thursday loss. Jon Retelle slapped a two-run single in the fifth. Jacob Turner took the loss on the hill for the Tigers (1-1).
Biddeford 10, EL 5
AUBURN – Matt Benson belted a grand slam in the sixth inning to lead Biddeford to a come-from-behind 10-5 win over Edward Little in SMAA action.
Craig Cormier’s two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth gave EL (0-4) a 4-2 lead. But Biddeford (3-1) answered with an eight-run sixth keyed by Benson’s homer.
Cormier had two hits to lead the Eddies, while Brian Parker contributed two hits for the Tigers. Benson picked up the win, while Nick Lawler took the loss.
Oak Hill 13, Belfast 4
WALES – Oak Hill pounded out 15 hits and used some strong relief pitching to drub Belfast, 13-4, in KVAC baseball action Friday.
Adam Labbe notched four hits and four RBI and picked up his first win of the season. Labbe and Adam Shafstall combined for seven strikeouts and four inning of scoreless relief.
Pat Duchette had two hits and three RBIs for the Raiders (5-0), while Mike Daggett added three hits and three ribbies and Jason Guerrette two hits. Nick Arthers led Belfast (2-2) with three hits, including two doubles.
Cony 7, Leavitt 2
TURNER – Derek Wing homered and Jon Sanborn, Miles Whitlock, Brandon Cummings and Ed Weddington slapped two hits apiece to lead unbeaten Cony to a 7-2 KVAC win over Leavitt.
Cony (5-0) scored in every inning except the fourth and sixth. The Rams belted out 12 hits in support of Bob Webber, who won his third game of the spring. Chad Schrepper stroked two of the five hits for Leavitt (3-3).
Bridgton 2, Navy Prep 1
BRIDGTON – Bridgton Academy scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh innings to scratch out a 2-1 win over Navy Prep.
Tim Ryan’s third hit of the day and a double by Dan Ammel sparked the rally. John Rubino tied the game with an RBI single to score Ryan, and Ammel trotted home on a passed ball with Eric Rehfield at the plate and one out. Ryan Foss picked up the pitching triumph for Bridgton (7-4), allowing seven hits and striking out 11 without walking a batter.
Hebron 7, CVA 4
HEBRON – Hebron scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take command of a 7-4 win over Carrabassett Valley.
John Slattery pitched 5 2/3 innings of hitless relief. He had a dozen strikeouts. Kale Merrill doubled for Hebron (3-3). Jake Anthony homered for CVA (0-1), which scored all its runs in the second inning.

Kents Hill 7, Hebron 6
KENTS HILL – Pat Austrian scored four goals and Matt Sowles added three to lift Kents Hills to a 7-6 boys’ lacrosse victory over Hebron.
Austrian and Sowles also combined for three assists.
