BRUNSWICK (AP) – A badly decomposed body was discovered Friday afternoon along some railroad tracks off of Church Road, police said.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said a surveyor discovered the remains under some trees near the railroad tracks. He said the body’s decomposition suggested it may have been there through the winter months.

McCausland said a representative from the medical examiner’s office would take the body back to Augusta for an autopsy and to attempt to identify the person. He said the body appears to be that of a man.

McCausland said police would check missing persons reports to help their investigation.
