Mt. Blue Middle School was the only school in the district that missed three days in August due to an emergency. Our school board has decided that it wants the kids to make these days up. I’m writing in opposition to that decision.
I’m almost positive that none of the kids or staff in our school want to take the first three days of summer and ruin them by going to school. Honestly, what does the school board expect teachers to teach us in those three days that would help us in high school? Nothing.
Until Christmas break, students had to walk outside to get from one class to another because our school was not connected yet. No matter what the weather they had to go outside. Kids were late for classes, got colds from the bad weather, dropped all of their stuff onto the ground, etc.
The school’s old band room is where we have social studies and language arts classes, and the school’s old cafeteria is where we have our math and science classes. One of these classes is right below the gym and the other is right beside the gym so we hear constant noise.
I, along with the rest of my class, believe we shouldn’t have to make the days up at the end of the year.
