FARMINGTON – Directors on the SAD 9 board of directors collectively decided to ask voters whether to allow the district to charge interest when towns are more than 30 days late paying their assessment.

The new article, suggested by Superintendent Michael Cormier, will be added to the warrant for the referendum budget vote on June 10. Bond counsel will determine the interest rate.

Last October, Chesterville got several months behind in its assessment payments, causing a cash flow problem in the district. The town paid promptly after the issue was raised in public forum.

The warrants will be signed sometime in the next few weeks and posted throughout the nine-town district in late May.

The board set a date for a public hearing on the $21,199,979 proposed budget for 7 p.m. on May 27 at Mount Blue High School.
