AUGUSTA – Sharon Millett, Realtor and owner of Coldwell Banker Millett Realty in Auburn, was recently elected to serve as chairwoman of the Maine Real Estate Commission.
The commission is made up of six individuals appointed by the governor and charged with the regulation and oversight of all of Maine’s real estate licensees. They are charged with protecting and promoting the best interests of Maine’s consumers in their real estate transactions.
Millett was also named to the Maine Real Estate Commission by former Govs. John McKernan and Angus King. She is a member of ARELLO, the Association of License Law Officials, an international organization of real estate regulators from throughout the world. She was the 1999 President of the National Association of Realtors, the world’s largest trade association with 840,000 members. She is a past chairwoman of the Fannie Mae National Advisory Council, FNMA, having served on that board for three terms. Millett currently serves as co-president of the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations (ICREA) which has national real estate association members in 24 countries throughout the world.
As owner of Coldwell Banker Millett Realty, Millett oversees the operations of this full service residential and commercial brokerage firm with a sales force of 35 Realtors.
Millett chaired the Presidential Advisory Group on Agency Law for the National Association of Realtors, which wrote the report which became the foundation for the changes to agency laws and rules in 43 states during the past 10 years. She helped author the revision to Maine’s real estate law on agency relationships. She acts as an expert witness and litigation consultant to law firms throughout Maine on issues of brokerage standards of practice, ethics and agency relationships.
She lives in Poland Spring with her husband, Jerry.
