LEWISTON – Advocates for Children will offer programs throughout May. All programs are free, although some do require registration. They will be held at the Advocates Office, 157 Main St.

“Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids” will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8. Join Ruth Cyr to learn about healthy nutrition for parents and children.

It will also be Family Fun Day featuring a trip to the Desert of Mainein Freeport. Transportation is limited, so register early.

“1, 2, 3, 4 Parents,” a three-part program is designed for parents of children ages 1 to 4, will show discipline methods that work, how to prevent tantrums and routines that make life easier. Participants will meet other parents of toddlers and preschoolers. The sessions will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 15, May 22 and May 29. Registration is required.

“Parenting 101: Good Discipline, Good Kids” will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. At some point, every parent struggles with how to successfully discipline a child. Parents can learn skills that encourage children’s cooperation, respect and good behavior. Registration is required.

“Parenting 201: Keeping Peace at Home” will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28. Parents can learn concrete, practical skills and strategies that ease tensions, prevent family fights and resolve conflict. Registration is required.

“Parenting Wisely!” is a self-administered, computer-based program that teaches parents and their 9- to 18-year-old children the skills for combating risk factors. Parents work individually and at their own pace while interacting with this CD-Rom program.
