LIVERMORE FALLS – The Healthy Community Coalition is teaming up with Spruce Mountains Health Services and area providers to bring local women high-quality breast and cervical health screenings in one appointment.

The first of these monthly Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program screening events is scheduled from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Spruce Mountain Health Services.

Maine women 40 and older who have no insurance or whose insurance does not cover annual mammograms or Pap tests, or women who have a high deductible, may qualify to receive free services at this screening through the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program.

“It’s important to have these resources available for women in our community who don’t have the funding for necessary annual screenings. These opportunities are so important and it is convenient to have a provider visit and a mammogram at the same location,” said Western Maine Family Health Center’s Susan Roberts N.P. , the provider on the May 5 event.

Current American Cancer Society screening guidelines and most leading experts recommend a mammogram every year for all women starting at age 40 or earlier based upon family history.

Participants on Monday will receive free mammograms, pap tests, clinical breast and pelvic exams as well as information on nutrition and tobacco. They will also receive a free bone density screening.

In addition to the clinical services, women who attend will receive a light breakfast and a variety of free gifts in celebration of Women’s Health Month.

The event is sponsored by the Healthy Community Coalition, the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program and the Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund.
