MONMOUTH – Monmouth Academy mathematics teacher David S. Heckman was elected president-elect of the Council of Presidential Awardees in Mathematics when he attended the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics convention in San Antonio, Texas.
The four-year commitment involves helping run the national group and being an advocate for the Presidential Award Program as well as acting as an advocate for mathematics education, kindergarten through grade 12.
Heckman has been at Monmouth Academy for 38 years and was a presidential awardee in 1987. He has been awarded the Tandy Technology Award and the Milken National Educator Award. As treasurer of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Maine, Heckman has been a frequent speaker at local, state, regional and national conventions.
Heckman resides in Monmouth with his wife, Christine, and they have three adult children.
