ALFRED (AP) – A 14-year-old boy who was rescued from the Littlefield River after a car crash last month has died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Bradley P. Bates-Allaire, who was a freshman at Massabesic High School, died Friday at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Bates-Allaire was a passenger in a car that plunged into the river April 1 after the driver failed to negotiate a curve on Swetts Brige Road. Driver Brittney Coombs, 17, and passenger Matthew Spooner, 15, both of Newfield, received minor injuries.

York County deputies believe excessive speed and unfamiliarity with the road were factors.

Lt. Gary Fecteau today said reports will be passed on to the district attorney, who will determine whether charges will be filed.
