FARMINGTON – A folk concert for peace will be staged at the University of Maine at Farmington on Thursday afternoon, featuring Ethan Miller, a rising Maine folk artist.

Miller recently released his first compact disc, “In Times of War.” Other performers will include UMF students DJ Joyboy, Paul Oxman and members of the campus improvisational comedy troupe, the Lawn Chair Pirates; and UMF professors Peter Hardy and Lee Sharkey.

The free concert will run from 4:20 to 7:30 p.m. outdoors at the UMF Amphitheater and there will be food, poetry, speeches and song.

“It’s like Woodstock in Farmington,” joked Rich Hosford, president of the Social and Environmental Activists for Change, the UMF club sponsoring the event. “Even though the war in Iraq is over, there still is a war atmosphere in the world and we need to keep awareness about the need for peace up.”

Hosford said that all community members are encouraged to attend, to support peace or just to enjoy some good local music and sunshine. “Even people who are in favor of the war are all really in support of peace,” he said. “I hope this concert gets more people aware that a lot of people really do just want peace.”
