This letter is an attempt to point out the difficulties faced by sexual offenders when they are discharged from prison after serving their sentences. Having received little or no treatment during their incarcerations they, in effect, face a further penalties.
They are marked men by the publicity they suffer and it is very difficult for them to find landlords who will rent them rooms or apartments. They may be excluded from their families, ostracized and without jobs.
Most of these men are not violent and can be rehabilitated, but to achieve this they need somewhere to live, treatment and work.
I do not condone sexual abuse, but I do ask that these people be given a chance to be reintegrated into society by being offered treatment, help to find accommodations and support to find jobs until they finish their probation.
