PORTLAND (AP) – A high school teacher and track coach who was caught with a small amount of cocaine by airport security screeners last month will be arraigned in District Court on May 20.

Toni Carr, 32, requested to be placed on unpaid leave from South Portland High School after being summonsed on April 17 for cocaine possession.

Carr allegedly tried to bring two grams of cocaine onto a flight at the Portland International Jetport but was caught by security screeners, said Steve Webster, special agent for the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Carr aroused suspicions of screeners when she removed something from her pocket and tried to conceal it after the metal detector went off and a screener asked her to step aside for a search, Webb said.

Carr, who lives in Old Orchard Beach, has served as a track coach for four seasons at South Portland High School.
