PARIS – Jim Taylor is looking for a few good groups that like to march.
He is stumping for more people to take part in the Memorial Day Parade set for May 26.
“We’re hoping people will come and march,” Taylor said. “We’re not honoring veterans just for now, but for all time.”
New marchers would be joining members of the 133rd Battalion of Engineers, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War members, the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School marching band and a variety of youth groups and baseball teams.
Maj. Peter Rogers, director of public affairs for the 133rd Battalion, said guardsmen would be marching in the parade, although 28 members are being called to active duty.
Taylor said youth groups, community organizations and others seeking to honor the veteran can enter a float or march.
“The parade always has been open to those who want to participate,” Young said.
The parade will form on Western Avenue just below the courthouse and proceed from there west to Main Street, and then down Main Street to Riverside Cemetery for ceremonies.
The parade route is less than 1 mile long.
Inquiries about entering the parade can be directed to George Brown, the parade marshal, at 743-8271.
