AUGUSTA – Staff Sgt. Ted D. Brissette of Durham, of the 101st Air Refueling Wing’s Security Forces Squadron in Bangor, has been named a noncommissioned officer nominee for the Maine Air National Guard’s Outstanding Airman of the Year. The announcement was made by Brig. Gen. John Bubar, assistant adjutant general, at Camp Keyes.

Brissette enlisted in the National Guard in April 2000. He earned a Joint Meritorious Service Medal in Operation Joint Guardian in Kosovo. He was recognized in Kosovo for his volunteer work at an orphanage and at a school in need of repair.

Last year, he used his training as an emergency medical technician to help save the life of a unit member.

He graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in law enforcement and corrections. His civilian employers include Dent Wizard and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, where he’s been part of the SWAT team, an instructor and a field training officer.

His volunteer activities at home include being a Cub Scout den leader.
