PALERMO (AP) – An elderly brother and sister were killed Sunday when their car was struck from behind by another vehicle on Route 3.

The accident occurred about 2:10 p.m. when Herman Davis, 81, was driving with his sister, Erma Davis, 83, east on the two-lane highway and stopped to make a left turn onto another road, said Maine State Police Trooper Perry Hatch.

A couple of cars passed on the paved shoulder to the right of the Davis vehicle before a car driven by Harald Christiansen drove directly into the rear of the car, Hatch said.

The Davises, who lived together, were dead at the scene, the trooper said. Christiansen and his two children, ages 3 and 5, were treated for minor bruises.

Hatch said the cause of the crash is under investigation, but that there was no indication of drinking.
