FARMINGTON – A 22-year-old Dryden man was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with resisting arrest and violating his prohibition, then had another charge added while being booked at the county jail.

Just after midnight, Farmington Police Department officer Nathan Reid pulled over a car suspected of speeding on the Town Farm Road.

While speaking with the driver, Reid said he noticed the smell of alcohol and began questioning the occupants of the vehicle, including Dryden resident Thomas Farrington, who, he said, initially gave a fake name.

After conducting a search of the vehicle, Reid was speaking with Farrington when he allegedly took off, hopping over a nearby embankment.

Reid quickly caught up with him, and charged Farrington with violating his probation because, Reid said, he had been consuming alcohol.

During the arrest, Farrington was uncooperative and after being transported to the Franklin County Detention Center, Reid said Farrington spit at and kicked Farmington officer Shane Cote as well as a corrections officer.

He then received a felony charge of assaulting an officer, as well as escaping an officer.

Farrington is being held without bail at the jail. He has a court date of July 10.

Also arrested in the incident was passenger William Waas, 19, of Strong on a warrant for operating a vehicle after license suspension. He was arrested by Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Cpl. Stephen Charles and later posted his $230 cash bail.

The driver, a 19-year-old Strong girl, was also summonsed on a civil violation for illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor because several bottles of beer had been found in her car, Reid said.
