1946 – 2003

THE FORKS – George Edward Rawson, 57, of Nichols Street, Lewiston, died suddenly and unexpectedly Monday, May 19, at his camp on the Kennebec just south of The Forks.

Born in Lewiston, March 4, 1946, to Elizabeth Lucienne (White) and William Whitney Rawson, he attended Auburn schools. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1964 then served in the Navy for four years. He graduated from Bliss College in 1971.

He was a member of the Elks Club, where he also tended bar. He married Jacqueline G. Caron on Aug. 19, 1972. He worked for Bell Telephone Co. for three years and owned and operated the Blue Goose Tavern for approximately 10 years.

After selling the Goose, he owned and operated Grace Pond Camps in Upper Enchanted Township, T3 R6. He was a Maine Guide there for approximately 10 years. He owned and operated Sharky’s Restaurant, first in Auburn and then in Lewiston.

His interests included hunting and fishing, whitewater rafting and canoeing. He also enjoyed playing in a shuffle bowling league and playing pool, telling jokes and laughing a lot.

Survivors include his daughter, Kellyann Marie Hopkins of Lewiston; three brothers, William W. (Sonny) Rawson Jr. of Auburn, Robert H. Rawson of Texas, and Paul R. Rawson Sr. of Windham; two nieces, Cheryl Ann Moody of New Hampshire, and Kathrine (Katie) Whitney Rawson of Poland; and four nephews, William Whitney (Billy) Rawson of New Orleans, Brian David Rawson of Monmouth, Paul Richard (PJ) Rawson Jr. of Minot and Nathaniel Scott (Nate) Rawson of Poland.

He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Normand Francis Rawson. Memorial service to be announced.
