The school budget for 2003-04 was approved by our school board on April 29 with an increase of approximately $450,000. Most of this increase is for salaries and benefits.

The economy in this area is getting worse all the time. Many businesses have closed and others are barely hanging on. Employees have had to pay more of their insurance costs or go without if they can’t afford it, yet we are expected to pay the increases for the coverage of the employees of SAD 9 and all their dependents.

Somehow this just doesn’t seem right!

The SAD 9 Advisory Committee is working to see if we can reduce this staggering amount. We would like to see other towns in SAD 9 form their own committees and study this budget, too.

Later this year the negotiation for teachers contracts will be coming up. We all need to contact our school board members to renegotiate this excessive contract.

Together we can make a difference.

We have to try to use our tax dollars more efficiently.

SAD 9 Advisory Committee,
