If we want to encourage companies to move to Maine we must have lower energy costs.
Today, Maine has the fourth highest price in the nation for electricity thanks to the Democrats, and the 10th highest price in the nation for natural gas thanks to the Public Utilities Commission. In contrast, Mainers enjoy the 45th lowest price in the nation for petroleum products.
This, apparently, is not sitting well with Majority Leader Sharon Treat, D-Gardiner, as she bemoans the use of fossil fuels and appears to embrace renewable energy regardless of the cost. Mainers need to understand she’s not the one who’s going to have to pay the bill. We are.
David Allen, Central Maine Power’s director of public affairs, was credited with the following quote in a Sun Journal article on April 8 “For instance, they’re calling for subsidies for renewable energies.” According to these various proposals, there could be no limit on how much subsidies ratepayers pay for renewable energy. Furthermore, through the years CMP rate payers have paid over $2 billion for renewable energy.
While Californians were rioting in the streets two years ago for having to pay 12 cents a kilowatt Mainers sat back oblivious to the fact that they were paying more!
Stop the do-gooders from getting into our wallets!
