1916 – 2003

AUBURN – Mona J. Bishop, 87, of Auburn died early Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Cumberland on April 9, 1916, the daughter of Raymond and Jane Reckerby Jewett.

She graduated from Edward Little High School with the class of 1933. On Aug. 18, 1934, she was married to Robert E. Bishop.

She was employed by Crest Shoe Co., and later at Morin’s Bridal World, from which she retired in 1978.

She was a member of The High Street Congregational Church.

Mona had a special way of making each grandchild feel as though each one was the favorite, spending many hours caring for them.

She loved to cook, always feeding everyone who stopped in for a visit. She was happiest when the house was full of family and friends.

She made sure at Christmas and Thanksgiving everyone went home with a pie. She was a world class shopper, never missing a Saturday for 50 years.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, cooking, and her cottage at South Harpswell. She enjoyed spending time with her family and the Fourth of July lobster feeds.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, of more than 68 years of Auburn; three daughters, Wendy Ayotte and her husband Paul of Turner, Bonnie Sollien and her companion Donald Miville of Auburn, and Joanna Smith and her husband Richard of Auburn; two sons, Bruce Bishop and his wife Dominicana of Swansea, Mass., and Robert Bishop Jr. and his wife Frances of Lewiston, plus 11 grandchildren and 11 geat-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
