1932 – 2003

FARMINGTONFrank A. “Chico” Salatino, 70, of Rumford died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at his eldest daughter’s residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 15, 1932, in Rumford to Vito and Teresa (Papasadora) Salatino Sr., he was a graduate of Stephen’s High School with the class of 1951, he married Betty Brown of Mexico on Oct. 13 of that year. He worked for Boise Cascade as a foreman for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1991.

He loved spending time with his family at their cottage on Garland Pond, as well as fishing, hunting and four-wheeling. He was a longtime member of the Son’s of Italy, where he enjoyed bocce ball and bingo among the company of numerous friends.

Known as “Chico” to friends and “Bumpa” to his family, he is survived by his mother, Teresa, wife Betty, son Joseph and wife Mary, all of Rumford; daughters Jacqueline Mawhinney and her husband Britt and Teresa Lucy and her husband Ray of Poway, Calif.; Siblings Vito and his wife Mary of Massachusetts, Rocco and his wife Julie of Rumford, Joseph of Lewiston, James and his wife Betty of Dixfield, Joanne of Portland, Julia of Rumford, Annette Austin and her husband Richard of Rumford, and Lucy Day and her husband Richard, also of Rumford.

He dearly loved all of his grandchildren and would go to any length to be there for them; Chris of Rumford, and his children Elijah, Parker, Andrew and Kayla; Beth and her fiancé George Gallant of Dixfield and their children Kelsey and George; Adam, Brian and Gina Mawhinney of Farmington and Danielle and Nicholas Lucy of Poway, Calif., as well as many faithful friends.

He was predeceased by his father Vito, sisters Mary Gaudet and Pauline, and grandson Michael.

Frank will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
