LIVERMORE FALLS – Residents of SAD 36 will have an opportunity to discuss the proposed 2003-04 budget at 7 p.m. Thursday during a public hearing in the high school cafeteria.

Budget booklets are now available at the school office on Cedar Street. The booklets contain all the articles that will be on the June 10 referendum ballot along with an explanation for each.

In his introductory letter, Superintendent Terry Despres explains how the budget was reached, the cooperation which developed between the directors and town officials, and that it reflects a reduced local tax effort.

Of the total $7,888,894 budget, the towns would pay $3,412,600, which is $66,000 less than last year. Livermore would see a small decrease while Livermore Falls would pay about $65,000 less, due in large part to a change in valuation.

The hearing will be followed by a regular board meeting during which directors will discuss the Part II budget, staffing needs and pre-kindergarten, and take action on the recommendations of the Scholarship Committee.

Several other items seek authorization for the superintendent to conduct summer business between board meetings.
