AUBURN – Community Convention III, an opportunity for dreamers and realists alike to tout their hopes for the future, is Saturday. Anyone interested in the Twin Cities is encouraged to attend.

Sponsored by LA Excels, the group birthed at the first such community gathering five years ago, the convention gets under way at 9:15 a.m. and will end officially with a noon lunch.

The agenda includes:

• Discussion of the arts and the arts center planned for the Great Falls School building.

• Discussion of a proposed convention center to be sited at Bates Mill No. 5 in Lewiston.

• The unveiling of a multi-year image marketing plan focused on the Twin Cities.

Besides listening to and taking part in the talks, convention attendees will be encouraged to visit more than 40 booths that will feature the wares and services of local agencies and organizations.

The convention will be at Central Maine Technical College off Turner Street. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Rebecca Conrad, LA Excels’ outgoing executive director, said the convention’s purpose in part is to allow “everyone a chance to celebrate their role in the vision of excellence for our community.” People can contact her at 753-6900 for more information about the convention.

LA Excels describes itself as a strategic alliance of Lewiston-Auburn’s municipal, civic, business, educational, social service, arts, environmental and citizen leaders working toward positive growth for the Twin Cities.

The organization says it shares “a vision for Lewiston-Auburn as a community of excellence, confident and proud of who we are, of what we do and of the future we create.”
