GARDINER – Two western Maine companies were recently awarded seed grants from the Maine Technology Institute, according to Dr. Janet Yancey-Wrona, director.
Western Maine companies receiving seed grants, and the scope of each project, include:
• Advanced Technologies for Forestry and Agriculture: Apple Acres Farm of Hiram will conduct research and development for an apple cider syrup product.
• Composite Materials Technology: Hancock Lumber of Casco will perform market, prototype and manufacturing analysis of a wood composite exterior trim product.
The application deadlines for the next set of MTI awards are June 19 for seed grants and July 7 for development awards. More information about MTI’s award programs is available at www.mainetechnology.org.
MTI Seed Grants are offered on a competitive basis to support early activities for product development, commercialization or business planning and development. Each grant of up to $10,000 requires a one-to-one match consisting of actual cash, salaries, staff time or equipment directly attributable to the proposed project.
