After reading “Doctors lobbying for health care reform,” it seems to me that Maine citizens should be aware of who the strongest advocates of universal health care are (May 28).
Dr. Tom Whitney is a social activist who invited the chairman of the National Communist Party, Joelle Fishman, to Maine to promote her agenda during the unfortunate misunderstanding between Lewiston’s mayor and the local Somalis.
Whitney is quoted as saying that he is tired of “inequalities” in the salaries of doctors, and families in Norway who have no insurance just “scraping by.”
Well, one of the wonderful benefits of living in a free society is that all citizens, including doctors, are free to move to other areas to make better lives for themselves and families. Isn’t that what a free country is all about?
Seems to me that Whitney and his fellow activists want to destroy what has made our country unique and successful in the world as they endeavor to establish their so-called “utopian” socialist society at the cost of losing many of our individual rights, including the right to self determination.
There is no utopia on earth and, unfortunately, I fear that we are about to find this out.
There is no argument the health care system needs to be improved, but do we really want to replace the current system with socialized medicine?
Universal health care in Maine is just the beginning; rationing of health care will soon follow. The cost will be staggering for the taxpayers of Maine.
