1914 – 2003
LEWISTON – Sister Marguerite Baribault, 88, formerly of 100 Campus Ave., Lewiston, Maison Marcotte, died Saturday, May 31, at D’Youville Pavilion surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 23, 1914, the daughter of Edward S. Sr. and Marie F. Pare Baribault.
She was in the first graduating class at Holy Cross School in Lewiston. At the age of 16, she entered the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Coaticook, Quebec. Her first assignment was in Island Pond, Vt.
She went on to attain her bachelors degree at Rivier College, and her music and french masters degrees at Boston College.
Her teaching career extended over 50 years throughout New England, 13 years of which was teaching music and language in France after World War II.
During her residency at Maison Marcotte she served as an organist.
Her pioneering work in gerontology led her to take part in the SEARCH Program and she was a board member for several years. She was a devoted volunteer for the March of Dimes for more than 20 years, being the first to lead a group of senior citizens on the Walk Program for this organization.
Sr. Marguerite was a very loving person who always took the opportunity to give of herself and to extend this spirit of giving to everyone. Her love of music was an inspiration to everyone.
She is survived by one sister, Gertrude Frateschi of Lewiston; one brother, Jules Baribault and his wife Marguerite of Lewiston; two sisters-in-law, Anita Baribault of Lewiston, and Jane Baribault of Rochester, N.Y.
She also leaves many nieces and nephews, who loved and cherished her. She will be sadly missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was predeceased by a sister, Louise Jansky; and two brothers, Edward Baribault Jr., and Arthur Baribault.
