1916 – 2003

Goldsboro, N.C. – Marion R. Whittemore, 86, a longtime resident of Livermore and more recently of Lockhaven Court, Goldsboro, N.C., died Monday, May 26 at her home.

She was born in Wayne on Oct. 31, 1916 to the late Percy M. and Mary Clayton Brown. She was a graduate of Canton High School.

On Sept. 17, 1938, she married James E. Whittemore in North Livermore. He passed away on June 21, 1995. They spent most of their life at the Washburn Norlands Estate as tenant farmers and caretakers.

She was a charter member of Wayside Bible Baptist Church in Livermore, serving as pianist, choir member and Sunday School teacher. She was an active volunteer for many years at the Parkview Nursing Home in Livermore Falls. She was also a member of the Eagle Heights Baptist Church of Goldsboro after moving there in 2002.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Wyatt and her husband Carl of Goldsboro, N.C., and Esther Wooten and her husband Daniel of Rochester, N.H.; one son, James Jr. of Sun Bridge in Mount Olive; two sisters, Emily Pike of Livermore, and Martha Hines of Jay; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
