1941-2003

FARMINGTON – Elizabeth Florence York, known affectionately as”Betty”, “Boots”, or “Betty Boop”, 61, of Temple, died unexpectedly Monday, June 2, 2003 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 17, 1941, in Philadelphia, Penn. She grew up in a Catholic orphanage in Philadelphia and attended Philadelphia schools.

She was predeceased by her first husband Hoyt Montgomery and on Sept. 5, 1998, married Dick York at Trinity United Methodist Church in Farmington.

Betty was employed at the Colonial Valley Motel in Farmington and for the last 16 years has been employed in the housekeeping department at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the Roderick Crosby American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 28 of Farmington and the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Auxiliary Post No. 3335 of Jay.

She loved dancing with her husband and friends at the Front Street Tavern in Farmington. Throughout her lifetime, her favorite hobby was collecting teddy bears, music boxes, butterflies and Santa Claus figurines.

Survivors include her husband, Dick, of Temple; twin sons, Larry and Joey Vandergrift of New Jersey; two daughters:,Cathy Sauerzopf of New Jersey and Betty Jo Sutton and her husband, Ray, of Missouri; four stepchildren, Mary Ann Posey, Anne Marie Montgomery, Jennifer Craig and Rick York, all of West Virginia; three grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Kass Humrick.
