1918 – 2003

LEWISTON – Hildred Courtney Akerley Bixby, 85, of 550 College St., Lewiston, formerly of 376 Lake St., Auburn, died Sunday morning, June 8, at Montello Manor.

Born in Auburn, Jan. 28, 1918, the daughter of Howard James and Courtney (Baker) Akerley, she graduated from Edward Little High School with the Class of 1936.

She worked in the law office of Harold Redding until 1942. On June 2, 1939, she married Chester C. Bixby of Auburn.

Since 1936, she was a member of the Court Street Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was a member of the Mary McEwen Circle and Young At Heart and was a charter member of the American Baptist Women’s Society. She also was a member of the former Salvation Army Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Chester Bixby; four children and their spouses, Lorna Hansen and her husband, Robert of Auburn, James Bixby and his wife, Ann of Albion, Carole Daniels and her husband, Robert of Hammonton, N.J., and Chester Bixby and his wife, Sandra of Auburn; 10 grandchildren, David Hansen and his wife, Devin, Richard Hansen, Neil Hansen, Lauri Bixby, Scott Bixby and his wife, April, Bethany Bixby, Kristen Lippincott and her husband, Scott, Wayne Daniels, Rebecca Lacasse and her husband, Nathan and Karen Bixby; and four great-grandchildren, Kurtis Bixby, Taylor Bixby, Casey Lacasse and Abigail Lippincott.
