NEW SHARON – Jeff Harris has captured most of his 37 cows that escaped after being spooked by a severe storm last Thursday. The young heifers, mostly Holsteins, bolted into the night and were driven farther away by an oncoming vehicle.
Harris said he knows where the other eight are. The cows ended up moving three miles away from the farm.
Harris has a horse trailer set up with a bucket of grain to entice the heifers into it.
He and some friends led some of the cows out of the woods back to safety with him in front with a bucket of grain and couple people behind the animals.
“I’m positive it’s going to work,” Harris said. “They want to come back, they just don’t know how.”
