LEWISTON – Scott D. Hunter of Turner is the featured artist in June at the Visiting Artist Gallery at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Hunter said his parents raised him and his brother, Robert, with a healthy knowledge and exposure to the coast of Maine, taking trips to all parts of the coastline.

Hunter said, “It was these experiences that helped form the main themes of my work. I am inspired by the endless beauty of all aspects the state of Maine has to offer, from its mountains to its coastline.

“My attempt is to capture the serenity and peace of gulls in morning fog, the quiet strength of the working boats in the harbors and the beauty of weathered clapboard on buildings constructed long ago. I am as well inspired by my family and friends, the animals around us and our old home.”

He said, “The simplicity of the country landscapes before us, the thoughts and visions of the people that live there, these all contribute to how I perceive American life. These are the themes that I capture with my art, moments from life in Maine.”

Hunter’s artwork can be viewed and purchased at art shows and festivals throughout New England. He will have several solo shows this summer. Reproductions can be purchased at Gilbert Gallery and Framing, Lewiston, and Deck the Walls at the Maine Mall in South Portland. Hunter has won many awards for his work.

He is a member of the Western Maine Art Group, Matolscy Art Center of Norway and Upcountry Artists in Farmington.
