1929 – 2003

NORWAY – Tallman (Tom) P. Leavitt, 74, a resident of Wytopitlock, formerly of Lewiston and Auburn, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, June 11, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Born May 5, 1929, at Drew Plantation, the son Ida Leavitt, he attended local schools and had been employed for Pioneer Plastics for over 17 years.

He had also participated on their softball team as a hobby. In his younger years he was an avid weight lifter. He was a founding member of the Lisbon Barbell Club, as well as a weight lifting trainer for five State of Maine Weight Lifting Championships and was a State of Maine Weight Lifting Champion himself. He was featured in an early issue of Muscle Magazine back in the 1950s.

Survivors include his mother, Ida L. Grant of Drew Plantation; his wife, the former Mildred Dixon, whom he married May 5, 1984, of Wytopitlock; one son, Bruce Leavitt of Bath; four daughters, Dorothy Brooks and her husband, Charles of Lisbon, Darlene Wood and her companion, Roland Lepage of Lewiston, Donna Newbury and her husband, Charles of Litchfield and Debra Nowak and her husband, Mark of Topsham; two sisters, Loretta Bernard and her husband, Robert of Poland and Laurel Martin of Lewiston; three stepsons, Walter, William and Douglas Humphrey; two stepdaughters, Debra Morin and Anita Gadbois; one aunt, Mary Cummings of Lewiston; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Pearl Jones; and one aunt, Eva Libby.
