Saturday’s clearing skies in the southern corridor of the state didn’t reach Bangor and Brewer early enough to prevent postponement of the Class A and C baseball and softball state championship games until Monday.
Games have been moved to 3 and 7 p.m.
At Gorham High School, the softball championship games were also rained out. The Class B final between Gray-New Gloucester and Bucksport has been moved to 3 p.m. Monday, with the Class D championship between Buckfield and Lee Academy to follow at 7 p.m.
The order remains the same for the baseball contests at Mansfield Complex in Bangor, with Jay and George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill meeting for the Class C title in the afternoon and Deering and Mt. Ararat colliding for Class A supremacy in the evening.
Times have been flip-flopped for softball. Class C Sacopee Valley of South Hiram and Central of East Corinth will now play the early contest, with Class A finalists Leavitt of Turner and Noble of Berwick taking Coffin Field in Brewer under the lights.
Jay, Leavitt and Buckfield each eye their second straight title.
Mt. Ararat, seeking its first-ever crown, wasn’t sorry to see the rain. The Eagles’ top pitcher, Maine Gatorade Player of the Year Mark Rogers, now will be able to start the final. He pitched a complete game in the regional championship against Oxford Hills on Wednesday and would have ineligible to pitch on two days rest.
