River Road drivers might face some delays this week as crews begin work building utility line connects under Alfred Plourde Parkway.
Lewiston Public Works Director Chris Branch said most of the work will take place on the side of the road.
“Still, there might be some delays on River Road this week,” Branch said. “Initially, it shouldn’t be much of a problem. But we’ll be digging Plourde Parkway up later on.”
Branch said crews would be installing water and sewer lines under the road, connecting the area for the Wal-Mart distribution center with the city lines.
Crews will be continuing storm sewer work near the intersection of Shawmut and Walnut streets this week. That project is part of the summer-long Gulley Brook project. Crews finished work on Shawmut Street last week, and are scheduled to move work on to Walnut Street this week.
“They’ll be detouring traffic around that work,” Branch said. “Depending on where they are day-to-day, they might leave one lane open. But people in that area should expect some detours.”
Branch said Adams Avenue drivers should plan on more delays this week, as well. Crews are scheduled to continue pavement work on that street between Park and Bartlett streets for the rest of the week.
The College Street storm sewer project will also be continuing this week and crews will also begin storm sewer work on Northwood Road off Main Street this week.
“All of the work is occurring about 100 feet off of Main Street, so traffic impacts should be minimal,” he said.
Lewiston crews have two more projects scheduled late night next weekend. They are scheduled to tear up Sabattus Street at College Street for storm drain work beginning June 22. That will reduce that road to one lane, Branch said.
Crews will also be replacing damaged pavement on East Avenue at Lisbon Street on June 22. That road was damaged this winter by a broken water main.
“The pavement is cracked in places and you can see little bumps and waves,” Branch said. “We just need to go back in and repair it.”
Court Street in full swing
In Auburn, crews will be continuing storm sewer projects on Court, Granite and Spring streets, according to City Engineer Steve Ranney. Court Street will be down to one lane for the next several weeks.
“But we don’t expect to have to close Spring Street,” Ranney said. “They plan to be repaving that on Tuesday or Wednesday through Friday, but we don’t plan on any lane closures. It should all be open, but we’ll have flaggers on hand.”
The city is scheduled to kick off its summer paving program on Monday with three overlay projects off Seventh Street. Crews are scheduled to put new layers of pavement on Boone and Truman avenues and Joseph Lane beginning Monday.
City crews are also planning to pave Allain Park near the Fairview School on Monday.
“All of those are pretty small projects,” he said. “We plan on wrapping them all up on Monday.”
Crews are scheduled to grind the pavement on James and Grant streets beginning Thursday, in preparation to repave them later this summer. Crews are also scheduled to install sewer lines under Cook Street beginning Thursday.
