Thanks to a reckless President Bush and a Republican Congress we have a government budget going over $2 trillion. Our current government budget is at $2.27 trillion. The United States has a national debt of $6.5 trillion. If we were to disburse the national debt to every man, woman and child in America, each citizen would owe $22,611.54.
The elderly demand cheap prescription drugs, the soccer moms want expansive Orwellian security and the Baby Boomers lobby for a more generous retirement handout. From Baldacci to Bush, our leaders bribe constituents with benefits, constantly borrowing and spending without care.
Why do I care you ask?
I’m an echo boomer.
This mad spending spree is on my dime. My generation is powerless right now because we are not old enough to exercise a powerful vote and we do not occupy the leadership positions in this country.
Eventually, I’m going to be the one paying off this debt. I’m going to be the one paying taxes that will reach all the way into the sky.
These high taxes will slow economic growth, but they will be necessary to pay for health care, retirement, home security, etc. Never in the history of the world has a generation turned its children into slaves.
So, next time you vote to borrow money, take comfort in the knowledge that your children will be the ones to pay for it. Massive debt and high taxes are the future; this will be your legacy.
