ERIE, Pa. (AP) – Carlos Leon and Justin Sherrod drove in two runs apiece to help the Portland Sea Dogs beat the Erie SeaWolves 8-4 Monday in the Eastern League.
Portland scored in each of the first three innings against Erie starter Adrian Burnside, who worked 4 2-3 innings, allowing four runs, one earned, and five hits. Erie tied it in the fifth against Portland starter Junior Herndon, who took a one-hitter into the inning.
Portland snapped the tie in the seventh after walking with the bases loaded against Erie reliever Carlo Alvarado. The Dogs tacked on three more runs in the ninth against Jorge Cordova and Brian Schmack on a two-run single by Sherrod and Tony Schrager’s RBI double.
Herndon won his fourth straight decision, allowing four runs, all earned, on five hits in six innings.
Portland (38-25) snapped a two-game losing streak in the opener of a three-game series. Erie (31-38) has lost 16 of 20.
