This letter is in response to the letter written by Rebecca Hinckley, titled “Stand firm,” regarding the issue of Leavitt Institute building use between the town of Turner and SAD 52 (June 10).

As a member of the school board, I feel it is important to clear up many of the inaccuracies stated in the letter.

On the issue of the “town being held responsible for school board foolishness,” while, yes, the board did sell the building to the town, it is important to note that a majority of the current school board was not on the board when the agreement was made.

The town of Turner did purchase the building from the district; that is true. As far as the renovations, that was done by the hard work of the building trustees to solicit contributions from private citizens. That restoration of the building was not done with taxpayer dollars.

As for the issue involving Head Start, that was just one of the many alternatives we were considering. We never prioritized the list on what our top choices were. All options would be considered.

While I agree that early child education is important, to say that the administrative space is used just “to answer phones” is blatant misrepresentation.

It is obvious that people don’t see the amount of time and effort or the importance of the work that our administrative team does on a daily basis.

Josh Morris, director

SAD 52 Board of Directors,

Turner
