LEWISTON – Corey Potvin of Lewiston is one of 17 students in the nation selected by NASA for an internship at the NASA Summer Institute. He has also been accepted at the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Oklahoma, and, while he is honored by the NASA acceptance, he has decided to go there. “Severe weather research is my area of interest,” he said, “so the Oklahoma program suits me best.”

Potvin is a dean’s or president’s list student and carries a challenging course load, which he said would not be possible without the six AP credits (he is an AP Scholar with Distinction) he brought with him from high school. He had earned some college credits, having completed linear algebra and introduction to psychology courses at Bates College as a high school senior. He also was a National Merit Finalist.

At Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vt., Potvin has served as president of ASSIST for the past two years, is president of the Sigma Zeta Honor Society, is a student senator (he has senior standing due to his heavy course load, although he has attended three years), and is running for president of the AMS.

Potvin considers himself a member of the junior lass and has not yet decided where he will attend graduate school. He is the son of Gisele Potvin and the late Keith Williams. He is a 2000 Lewiston High School graduate.
