FARMINGTON – The Department of Maine Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of World War I met at the Deer Crossing dining area June 7. Chairmen gave reports of contributions to Veterans Administration Volunteer Services, attending memorial and veterans days services. Awards for these reports were received by several members. The charter was draped and memorial services held for Erica Welder Unit 2333, Dorothy Chase Unit 2333 and life member Esther Kyes Unit 2689.

Officers re-elected were: president, Barbara Titcomb: vice president, Ernestine Dupont; treasurer, Jean Mitchell; secretary, Floriece Kennedy; chaplain, Rose Oliver; conductress, Elsa Seeger; Americanism, Rowena Swain; legislature, Barbara Titcomb; hospitality/community service, Ernestine Dupont and VAVS, Elsa Seeger. Next year’s meeting will be on June 4.

DAR nominations

FARMINGTON – Fifteen members and two guests, Carol Dyar-Eaton and Jolene W. Bowdoin, attended the meeting of the Colonial Daughters DAR at the home of Theo Walker. New members are Maxine Turner, Eleanor Campbell and Marie Lucarelli.

Clarice Sturtevant was honored with a 50-year pin and was joined by Myrtie Flood and Lena Woosley. Connie Hiltz introduced speaker Rege Murray, who spoke on Presidential Wives Tea.

Nominating report for Colonial Daughters 2003-2005: Regent, Constance Hiltz; first vice regent, Theo Walker; second vice regent, Ann Kendall; chaplain, Jeanette Stevens; recording secretary, Mary Lawrence; corresponding secretary, Floriece Kennedy; treasurer, Patricia Durham; registrar, Elaine Wells; historian, Marion Hutchinson; librarian, Nancy Flick.

Hostesses were Theo Walker, Ann Kendall and Jolene Bowdoin. The final meeting for the summer will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 24, at the Chuck Wagon Restaurant in Livermore Falls. Polly Bartow will be the speaker.

Church news

FARMINGTON – Lucas Hayden, son of Jim and Judy Hayden, a recent graduate of Liberty University, was guest speaker at the May 25 service at Farmington Baptist Church. A baptism service was held on June 1 at which time Brin Amberlee, Glen Dubay, Joshua Jalbert, Clifford and Doris Stone and Dorothy Stone were baptized. It was announced that Sam and Carol Jackson spent a week in Oregon as part of the Builders for Christ team. Selina Shields, assisted by Lisa Dereszynski will teach an abbreviated version of Beth Moore’s “Breaking Free” for women during the Sunday School hour this month. The six-week women’s Bible study sequel will be taught at 12:30 p.m. Mondays, and 7 p.m. Wednesday starting Monday, June 23.
