AUBURN – Police on Thursday were searching for a man suspected of snatching an 8-year-old girl from the driveway of her Second Street home.
Investigators were told the man pulled the girl into his pickup truck at about 7 p.m. and then loaded her bicycle into the back of the vehicle.
Moments after the man started to drive away, the girl jumped from the vehicle and ran home, police said. The girl told investigators she was able to grab her bicycle from the back of the truck as she fled. She then told her grandmother about the abduction and police were called.
Officers searched the neighborhood for a vehicle described by the girl, but did not immediately locate it. Nearby police departments were alerted to be on the lookout for the light blue truck.
Investigators also were speaking with people in the area of South Main Street where the girl reported she jumped from the truck as the driver stopped at an intersection.
The 8-year-old was taken to the police station where detectives prepared a composite drawing of the man Thursday night.
Investigators were asking that anyone with information about the incident or the man call the Auburn Police Department at 784-7332.
The man was described as approximately 6 feet tall, thin with dark brown hair and blue eyes. The girl told police the man who grabbed her was clean shaven and wearing glasses.
The 8-year-old was not hurt during the incident, police said.
