1924 – 2003
LEWISTON – Charles H. Lafean Sr., 79, a resident of Holly Street, Auburn died Friday morning, June 20, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.
He was born in Chicago, Ill., April. 18, 1924, the son of Wilbur L. and Margaret Shaw Lafean. Educated at The Episcopal Academy, also attending Portland Junior College, and Princeton University.
He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. For many years he was employed as a service technican for Pitney Bowes until his retirement.
Following retirement he owned and operated Lafean Automated Mailing Systems. A long time very active member of the United Methodist Church in Auburn serving on the executive committee, also a long time member of the church choir.
A member of the Androscoggin Chorale, he served as assistant director of the Lost Valley Ski School, and on the ski patrol at Sunday River, a member of the American Red Cross for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hiking and camping. He also was an avid woodworker.
He leaves a daughter, Katherine Lafean Bono, Phd., and her husband Giacomo of Miami, Fla.; a son, Charles H. Lafean Jr. and his wife Donna of Auburn; grandsons, Ryan Charles and Tyler Richard Lafean of Auburn; his long time companion, Barbara J. Hardison of Auburn; her daughter, Sonia Finnegan and her husband Darren of Auburn; a sister, Marcia L. Jones of Acton, Mass.; and a brother, Wilbur L. Lafean of Wellesley, Mass. He was predeceased by two brothers J. William Lafean, John S. Lafean; and a sister, Margaret L.Wessel.
