SOUTH PARIS – Helen C. Black, 77, of South Paris died Friday, June 20, at Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born in Jersey City, NJ, Nov. 22, 1925, the daughter of Peter and Anna Varga Tevis. She attended schools in Jersey City and retired from AT&T in Jersey City.

She was a member of the Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Jersey City and St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norway. She was a volunteer at the Fox School in South Paris and volunteered for many other community services including coats for kids.

She enjoyed playing bingo. She was a loving, caring person with a warm smile and a devoted grandmother. On July 3, 1948 she married James W. Black.

Survivors include her husband of South Paris; a daughter, Patricia Black of South Paris; a son and daughter-in-law, James J. and Tere Black of Penacook, N.H.; a grandson, Zachary Littlefield of South Paris; two sisters, Mrs. John Farrington of Cranford, N.J., and Veronica Mihalek of Fort Ready, N.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
