AUBURN – William “Willy” Robertson has joined Gates Formed-Fibre Products, Inc., as a textile project specialist. Robertson has 18 years experience in textile engineering. Most recently, he was an engineer with manufacturing and technical service companies in Maine, New Hampshire and North Carolina.

“Willy’s strong technical expertise and thorough knowledge of textile manufacturing are great assets to our operation,” said Gates Engineering Manager Ken Bundy.

At Gates, Robertson oversees projects in the Nonwovens Department, guiding them from initial preparation through the design stage and continuing on to installation. He also assists in maintaining machinery to a high standard. Robertson is working with other Gates associates in developing and continually updating a formal training program that incorporates manuals, practices, procedures, and ongoing training.

A native of Kinross, Scotland, Robertson completed a five-year textile engineering apprenticeship while a student at the Scottish College of Textiles. Upon receiving his Higher National Certificate, the equivalent of an associates degree, he advanced to supervision and management positions at textile companies in Scotland where he worked for the next several years before moving to the United States in 1994.

Robertson, his wife, and their two young children recently relocated from New Hampshire to the Lewiston-Auburn area. Gates Formed-Fibre Products, Inc., headquartered in Auburn, is a global manufacturer of innovative technical textiles and a leading supplier of trim components to original equipment manufacturers and converters in the automotive industry.
