The volunteer appreciation dinner pays special tribute to the Therapy Dog Program.

LEWISTON – Central Maine Medical Center honored human and canine volunteers at its recent annual volunteer appreciation dinner.

Volunteer Services Director Susan Bowie told dinner-goers that adult volunteers contributed more than 56,000 hours of service last year. Some 88 new people joined the volunteer program, including several who were recruited specifically to work in the newly-opened Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute.

Special tribute was paid to the Therapy Dog Program. The dogs and their volunteer owners were in attendance. The dogs were presented special recognition pins to wear on their collars.

The theme for the evening was “Fun in the Sun” and the CMMC dining room was decorated with starfish, beach hats and beach decorations.
