FARMINGTON – This week’s pet of the week at the Franklin County Animal Shelter is a dog with particular special needs, according to the staff. They ask for someone, who thinks they have the time and patience to give a sweet dog a lot of compassion, to consider adopting Cheyenne.

Cheyenne was found as a stray in New Sharon with a blue nylon collar attached to a black nylon leash. She came to the shelter scared, they said, with her tail full of tangles. They assume she may be part German Shepherd or Husky.

She has not shown any aggressive behavior and enjoys being petted. Cheyenne walks very well on a leash and loves to be walked in the wood behind the shelter. When they spent over an hour brushing out her tangles, she never gave the staff any problems.

Cheyenne’s main drawback is that she is extremely shy. When people walk in to the dog room, she stays in her outside cage, tentatively looking in.

Because of her shyness, they would not recommend Cheyenne to a home with other dogs or rambunctious children. She needs a quiet household where she can get an extra amount of attention and affection.

The staff would love to find a family willing to open their hears to this sweetheart who does not appear to have had an easy life.

Recent pets of the week, Halloween and Fozzie, have both been adopted.

Other new dogs at the shelter includes a male mix breed from Livermore Falls who came with green nylon and brown leather collars and a neutered male German Shepherd mix from Jay with a blue nylon collar.

The shelter is looking for part-time employees and later this summer will have full-time positions open. Those who might consider applying are asked to consider the fact that these are kennel cleaning positions. Typical job duties include cleaning cages, washing bowls and litter boxes, feeding animals, washing floors and helping sick animals recover. The staff works hard to improve the welfare of all the animals there. Applications are available at the shelter.
