GREENVILLE (AP) – Six people were injured early Wednesday after their fast-moving power boat rammed head-on into an island on Moosehead Lake.
Sgt. Roger Guay of the Maine Warden Service said the accident occurred between 2 and 3 a.m. when the fiberglass pleasure boat ran straight into a rock wall on the side of a small unnamed island near Harfords Point.
The boat’s occupants, who are between 15 and 22, were picked up by another boat that was following behind. Guay said one person had to be freed after getting trapped by the boat’s console.
Guay said some of the people were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The others were taken to Charles A. Dean Hospital in Greenville.
The names of the injured, all from the Greenville area, were not released.
