CANTON – Pierre E. DesJardins, 89, died on June 19, at the Victorian Villa after a long illness.
Born in Lewiston, Aug. 3, 1913, the son of Evanhoe and Anna (Malo) DesJardins, he was educated in local schools and graduated from Roberts Academy.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. After the war he stayed in Paris and studied at the Ecole Technique Des Arts De La Coiffure and graduated from that school on Dec. 20, 1945. He subsequently studied at the Minneapolis School Of Beauty Culture, graduating from that school on April 30, 1947.
After graduating from school in Minnesota, he worked for the U.S. Civil Service in Seoul, Korea until the start of the Korean War when all civilian government employees were expatriated back to the states. He then settled in Boston where he opened a beauty salon in Belmont, where he lived and worked until his retirement.
“Babe”, as he was known to his family and friends, moved back to Maine after he retired, to his cottage on Purgatory Pond in Litchfield, which was one of his passions. He loved to travel, read, gardening and entertain his family and friends at his home. He will be missed by them all.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Betty (Rioux) DesJardins of Hampstead, N.C., and Gertrude (Pepin) DesJardins of Lewiston.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Oscar, Romeo and Roland DesJardins; and three sisters, Adrienne Sutton, Florence Fallon and Laurette Dufour.
